Last weekend I finally got to spend 3 whole days outside of Bratislava and I couldn’t be happier. My friend and I decided to head to Handlova, a small town in the middle of Slovakia for a very relaxing and chilled weekend. There is not much to do in the town, but that was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in a small 2 star guest house and we were nicely surprised with the facilities and the service we got. Apart from our small but cozy room, SPA, swimming pool and a restaurant, the guest house area offers sport activities, such as ping pong, outdoor bowling, tennis courts – indoors and outdoors, mini golf and the highest outdoor climbing wall in Slovakia. In combination with the forest walk we couldn’t wait to take, our long weekend looked very promising.
After we checked in, we went to explore Handlova. Its rich history of mining could be felt everywhere and we took a few snaps on our walk of the town.
The next day it was time for our walk in the forest and some sport activities!
We finished the day in a restaurant where I just had to have my favourite meal – halusky. It’s a Slovak national dish made of potatoes and bryndza (special Slovak cheese). Yummy!
I felt so rested after 3 days spent in Handlova and I would definitely recommend it for those who want to experience rural Slovakia in a relaxing way.
On our way to Bratislava, we couldn’t resist to make a stop in Bojnice, famous for its fairytale castle Bojnicky zamok. It is definitely worth a visit, located in a pitoresque village not far from Handlova.
Which place would you prefer to visit, Handlova or Bojnice? Let me know your thoughts! =)
