Discovering Slovakia: Trip to Devin castle

Sun was shining, sky was blue and I was determined to stay out the whole day.  I was going through my mental list of places to go in and around Bratislava when I thought of Devin castle. I’d been planning on visiting this site for months and that day was perfect for a spontaneous trip. So I packed my bag, picked up my friend and I was on my way to have an awesome day.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take long to get to Devin castle as it still a part of Bratislava. After we arrived, we had a stunning view of the castle’s ruins standing on the top of the hill. Admiring this view, we decided to spend few minutes in the small local market located in front of the entrance to the castle. We found there a lot of home-made sweets and traditional drink typical for the village of Devin – ribezlak (wine made from redcurrent and blackcurrent).  Definitely worth tasting!

Devin castle, or more specifically its ruins, is situated on the top of a hill overlooking the Danube river and the views are just stunning. We walked around and took a few pictures so enjoy!

Me, enjoying the view

As the sun was still shining and we were eager to keep exploring, we found out that there is also a hiking track, not very difficult to follow. Our destination was called Devinska Kobyla and we reached it after 40 minutes of walk.  Once again, the views were great and we stayed there for a while to enjoy the rays of sun and the buzz of nature.

So I can say that mission was accomplished, I had a great day outdoors and I can’t wait to discover another great spot in my home country.
