Fun Facts About Slovakia: Did You Know That Andy Warhol Museum…..?

Fun Fact Thursday is a challenge I promised myself I would start a long time ago and finally it is time for the first Fun Fact Post! As you might have guessed, I will regularly post on Thursdays and  reveal not so well-known facts about Slovakia or any other country. Today´s piece of information might be interested for those of you who know a little bit about art and the name Andy Warhol rings a bell with you.

So did you know that…

……the first Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art in the world was founded in 1991 in the town Medzilaborce, near the village of Mikova, where his parents come from?

The first museum dedicated to Andy Warhol – a prominent personality of the 20th century art and the king of pop art – was established in 1991 as the first in the world and still the only one in Europe. This art institution is devoted mainly to the presentation of the works and life of Andy Warhol. Expositions of the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art showcase not only the unique works of Andy Warhol, with a thematic focus on his nearly whole-life work, but also works of contemporary Slovak and foreign artists.

In addition to consulting services in the fields of museum education and theory of visual arts , the museum is also provides museum education and science and research activities in the areas of visual arts theory and critique of contemporary visual arts. The Andy Warhol Society for Visual Arts is an independent legal entity operating in the museum which focuses on museum-educational activities for children and young generation.
